Reaper HPC 1600 2 x 2GB with EVGA NVIDIA 7901 Ultra MB - Not Working
________________________________________
Problem:

Microsoft Windows Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) always occurs during install of an Operationg system (Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic 64bit). Only happens hafter it finishes installing and shows the "Please wait while Windows Starts for the first time". The BSOD Message/Details vary depending on memory timing settings, but in general is usually "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL".

Background:

I just purchased all new parts from newegg.com and am building a complete new system. Not overclocking or doing anything custom or out of the ordinary - Just the basics.

Parts used/System Specs:

RAM - OCZ3RPR16004GK - OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB 2 x 2GB DDR3 SDRAM 1600 PC3 12800
Motherboard - 132-CK-NF79-A1 - EVGA LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra ATX Intel
CPU - BX80570E8500 - Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
GPU - 01G-P3-1284-AR - EVGA GeForce GTX 280 SSC Edition 1GB 512-bit GDDR3
PSU - BZ1100 - ABS Tagan BZ Series BZ1100 1100W ATX12V
HDD - WD3000GLFS - Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB 10k RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0 GB/s Hard Drive

- DIMMs are located in the 'Gray' Slots 0 and 1
- System Cooling: NZXT Tempest Case (6 total fans) w/2 140mm (Top) & 1 120mm (Back) Exhaust fans, 2 140mm (Front) & 1 120mm (Side) Intake Fans. Small Fan is installed on chipset heatsink. 140mm Fan running on PSU (bottom of case). Video card has a built-in fan. Zalman CNPS9700 LED Heatsink/fan on the CPU - it alligns directly with the rear exhaust fan. Basically, the system has a total of 10 fans running inside
- BIOS Version is now updated to the latest available as of September 7th, 2008 (P06) - ACTUAL BIOS date is 06/25/2008

Actions Taken:

1. I read and followed these two posts (790i Problems and this post by RyderOCZ) so far, tried all of the examples shown with the same result being a BSOD.
2. I have downloaded and ran CPU-Z (details posted below)
3. I have performed basic stress testing using Prime95, so far with no issues (Blended mode, 2 threads). Though, this is running only on my currently "underclocked" BIOS settings.
4. I have ran some tests mostly around swapping the DIMMs and changing BIOS setings.

Request:

1. I need further help to troubleshoot the issue here. i cannot get into an OS on the system so am stuck at the moment purely dealing with hardware and the BIOS settings.
2. I guess i need very detailed proper (stable/safe) settings for my RAM + MB combination so that I can get an OS loaded to do more troubleshooting, or just to make the system work as expected.
3. At this point, i'm hoping someone can just help meget proper (not overclocked) settings to run the system with stock performance. Unfortunately, the settings in the posts mentioned before do not seem to work for me so far.

Your prompt assistance is greatly appreciated.

UPDATE 4
I installed the latest version of CPU-Z. It reports the following:
** Memory Tab **
DRAM Frequency: 666.7 MHz
FSB DRAM: 1:2
CL: 7.0 Clocks
tRCD: 7 Clocks
tRP: 7 Clocks
tRAS: 24 Clocks
tRC: 28 Clocks
CR: 2T
** SPD Tab **
Slot1 - (all others are empty at this time)
Module Size: 2048 MBytes
Max Bandwidth: PC3-10700F (667 MHz)
Manufacturer: OCZ
Part Number: OCZ3RPR16002G

Совет специалиста:

its an NV chipset issue for installs just use one module until you apply the patch

It seems that the problem all along was Vista, or as Tony pointed out, its a chipset issue. As said above (unfortunately, I had to find out the hard way before the post), Vista needs to be installed with only one DIMM loaded (2GB), then after SP1 is apllied, add the second one to have a total of 4GB.

I am not overclocking, but using stable settings as in the 790i Ultra post i linked in the fist message.

I will post my current stable settings here soon so that anyone else with this or similar issues can at least use them for comparison.

System is running great with zero problems. Ran Prime 95 for over 36 hours with no problems, loaded a few intensive games with all settings maxed out and still no issues.

I looked around and could not find anything in any documentation i have which alerted that vista should be installed that way... would have been helpful.

Thanks.
То есть после установки патча работа компьютера превратилась в песню.

Мои данные:
RAM - OCZ3RPR16004GK - OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB 4 x 2GB DDR3 SDRAM 1600 PC3 12800
Motherboard – GT-X48T-DQ6 LGA 775
CPU Intel(R) Core (Tm) 2 Quad CPU Q9550@2,83 Mhz Yorkfield
VGA Nvidia GeForce 9600

I installed the version 1.48 of CPU-Z. It reports the following:
** Memory Tab **
DRAM Frequency: 666.7 MHz
FSB DRAM: 1:2
CL: 7.0 Clocks
tRCD: 7 Clocks
tRP: 7 Clocks
tRAS: 21 Clocks
tRC: 28 Clocks
CR: 1T
** SPD Tab **
Slot1, Slot2, Slot3, Slot1 - (all others are empty at this time)
Module Size: 2048 MBytes
Max Bandwidth: PC3-10700F (667 MHz)
Manufacturer: OCZ
Part Number: OCZ3RPR16002G
